At the invitation of the Procurator of the Order of St George, Baron Vinzenz von Stimpfl-Abele, I delivered a lecture on 24 September 2026 at the Order’s residence in Vienna, entitled “Otto von Habsburg – Paneuropäischer Brückenbauer” (Otto von Habsburg – A Pan-European Bridge-Builder).

The lecture took the form of a conversation with the distinguished writer and publicist Stephan Baier, formerly Otto von Habsburg’s assistant in the European Parliament and co-author of his biography.

The introductory address was given by the Procurator of the Order, Baron Vinzenz von Stimpfl-Abele.

The conversation focused on three main themes: my personal encounters and collaboration with Otto von Habsburg; his life's work and achievements; and his vision of Europe, together with the ways in which his ideas and actions in his own time can be applied to the challenges of the present day.

The conversation was followed by a lively and stimulating discussion with the audience. Many of those present shared their personal experiences and recollections of meeting Otto von Habsburg.

The gathering continued in a convivial atmosphere over refreshments and further informal conversation.
