Book about Zlatko Posavac Presented in Kaptol
The monograph Zlatko Posavac: Professor of Aesthetics from Kaptol (1931–2019), which I edited as part of the Biblioteka Posegana publishing series issued by Publishing House Slap, was presented on 26 June 2025 in his birthplace, Kaptol near Požega, as part of the celebration of the Day of the Municipality.
The presentation took place at the Stari Grad fortress, in the presence of the Mayor of Kaptol Municipality, Dario Lončarević, who gave a welcoming address, along with members of Posavac’s family and a large number of guests.
Speakers at the event included the President of the Municipal Council of Kaptol Municipality, Mile Pavičić; the representative of Požega-Slavonia County and secretary of Biblioteka Posegana, Ferdinand Troha; the series editor, Krunoslav Matešić; and myself, as the editor of the publication. The event was moderated by Anita Katić.
In my address, I placed particular emphasis on the deep-rooted connection between Zlatko Posavac and his native Kaptol, as well as his family’s ties to the Požega Golden Valley, Slavonia, and Posavina.
At the end of the presentation, I quoted from the closing remarks of Posavac’s Two or Three Memoirs of Autobiographical Notes, published as an epilogue in the book Philosophical Manuscripts of the 18th Century in the Franciscan Monasteries of Slavonia. In it, he wrote that, alongside his academic pursuits, “an intimate, deeply emotional, and not merely strictly scientific relationship never ceased to bind him to Slavonia permanently, forever and ever.” He went on to describe it as “a truly deep, yet conscious, emotional and rational connection, equal to everything we call Croatia; and although personal and perhaps ‘private’, it is nonetheless equally shared with every specific homeland.”
