World Congress of Philosophy in Rome
The 25th World Congress of Philosophy (WCP) ‘Philosophy Across Borders’ took place in Rome at the Sapienza University. I participated as a plenary speaker in the programme of the pre-World Congress conference ‘Discerning Boundaries: Philosophy across Cultures’, which took place from 29 to 31 July 2024 at the Faculty of Philosophy of Sapienza University of Rome.
The official opening of the World Congress, which was attended by around 5,000 participants in 89 thematic sections, took place at the Baths of Caracalla. Arias from the opera Tosca by Giacommo Puccini were performed as a tribute on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the composer's death.
The conference was organised by The Council for Research in Values and Philosophy (RVP) from Washington under the auspices of the World Congress of Philosophy, the Sapienza University and the Catholic University of America.
On 29 July 2024, I gave a talk entitled ‘Philosophy Transcends Boundaries in Defence of Human Dignity: Georgius Benignus' Apologies of Bessarion, Mirandola, Savonarola and Reuchlin’ as part of the plenary panel ‘Understanding Boundaries across Traditions’.
More than 100 philosophers and scholars from different countries and continents participated in the conference. Charles Taylor from Canada spoke in the next plenary section after mine.
In Rome, I visited the Vatican Museums and photographed Raphael's School of Athens. In Florence, I visited the monastery of Santa Croce, where Dragišić worked as Guardian and Provincial of the Tuscan Franciscan Province. In the Gallery of Offices (Galleria degli Uffizi) I took a photo of Sandro Botticelli' famous Slander painting.
