100 Years of Paneuropa in Vienna
On the 100th anniversary of the publication of the "Paneuropa. One proposal" in the Vienna newspaper Neue Freie Presse and on the 128th birthday of Richard Coudenhova-Kalergi, the jubilee congress "100 years of Paneurope" began in Vienna on November 17, 2022.
Organised by the Austrian Paneuropean Movement and co-organised by the International Paneuropean Union, the congress lasted four days and ended on November 20, 2022, on the 110th birthday of Otto von Habsburg, with the laying of wreaths at the Capuchin Tomb and a formal reception at the Vienna City Hall. I participated with a presentation and discussion in a panel on the identity of Europe.
More than 300 members and friends of the Paneuropean Union from all over Europe participated in the congress. A film about 100 years of Paneurope was presented. Among others who spoke were the President of the International Paneuropean Union Alain Terrenoire, the President of the Austrian Paneuropean Movement Karl von Habsburg, the President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, European Commissioner Johannes Hahn, Member of the European Parliament Lukas Mandl, Member of the Austrian Parliament Gudrun Kugler, Member of the Ukrainian Rada Oleg Dunda, Vice President of the International Paneuropean Union Walburga Habsburg Douglas. Austrian President Alexander van der Vellen and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba addressed the audience with video messages.
